A/B testing
Showing two versions of a page or offer to separate groups of visitors at the same time, then keeping the version that earns more.
In an A/B test, visitors are split at random between the current version of your store (the control) and a changed version (the variant). Both groups shop on the same days, so once enough visitors have taken part, a difference in results comes from your change and not from the season, an ad campaign or luck.
On Shopify, the change can be a price, a theme, a product page layout, a shipping rate or a block in checkout. Say It With Diamonds tested the color of one CTA button and raised add-to-cart rate by 6.29%.
How to run a good A/B test
- Write a hypothesis: what you will change, for whom, and which metric should move.
- Choose one primary metric before launch. For most stores that is revenue per visitor.
- Set the sample size in advance and let the test run its full length.
- Ship the variant only once the result is statistically significant.
Elevate runs A/B tests natively on Shopify, including price tests, theme tests and page tests.
